The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Memphis is pleased to announce the Eleventh Annual Lecture in the Paul Erdos Lecture Series, a conference held each year in honor of the department's long relationship with Paul Erdös.

 

2007 Memorial Lecture

Peter Lax, winner of the 1987 Wolf Prize and 2005 Abel Prize, will deliver the Memorial Lecture this year. Titled "Mathematics and Physics," it will take place March 23, 2007, at 4:15pm in the FedEx Technology Building 's Zone Room. 

Organized by Béla Bollobás, this conference is being sponsored by the Institute of Combinatorics and the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Memphis. Additional funding has been provided by the National Science Foundation.

The combinatorics conference consists of a series of talks by other outstanding international scholars. This year, we look forward to lectures from the following.

"Erdös for Beginners: The Mathematics of Paul Erdös for Non-Mathematicians"

In addition a general public lecture entitled, " Erdos for Beginners: The Mathematics of Paul Erdös for Non-Mathematicians"  will be delivered by András Gyárfás from the University of Memphis and STAKI in Budapest, Hungary. This talk will precede the Memorial Lecture on March 23, 2007.
