Cognitive Science Seminar—Fall'04
Modeling the Mind:
Computational Models of Cognition
Course: COMP 7/8514, PSYC 7/8514
Course meetings: Wednesdays, 12:40 to 3:40 pm
Seminar presentations: Wednesdays, 1:30-3:00 pm
" No one talks about replicating the full gamut of human intelligence any more. Instead we see a retreat into specialized subproblems. Amongst the dreamers still in the field of AI (those not dreaming about dollars, that is), there is a feeling that one day all these pieces will all fall into place and we will see "truly" intelligent systems emerge." -- Rodney Brooks, MIT
“… psychology is ready for uniform theories of cognition…”
--Allen Newell, CMU
Where Computer Science meets Cognitive Science. This seminar will be devoted to the study of architectures both for such highly intelligent software agents as envisioned by Brooks, and for such uniform theories of cognition as envisioned by Newell.
