Exams

There will be four one-hour exams, and a final
exam. (As stated in the grading policy on the course’s main webpage, the lowest
score of the hour-exams will be dropped, and your grade will be computed using
the best 3 scores you got in the hour-exams.) Each hour-exam is worth 100
points, and the final exam is worth 200 points. The maximum score you can
obtain in the class is 500 points. The dates for the exams, and the material
covered by each of the exams are indicated below. In order to prepare for the
exams, you are very strongly encouraged to do all the problems listed under the
Assignments link.
EXAM 1: Monday, September 18,
2006.
This exam covers
Sections 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 2.1, 2.2. A review for the exam will be
done in lecture on Friday, September 16.
EXAM 2: Monday, October 9, 2006.
This exam covers
Sections 2.1, 2.2, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.5. A review for the exam will be done in
lecture on Friday, October 7.
EXAM 3: Monday, November 6, 2006.
This exam covers
Sections 5.1, 5.2, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, 7.1. A review for the exam will be done in
lecture on Friday, November 4.
EXAM 4:
Wednesday, November 29, 2006.
This exam covers Sections 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5,
8.1. A review for the exam will be done in lecture on Monday, November 28.
FINAL EXAM: Monday, December 11,
2006, 10:30-12:30 pm, 227 Dunn Hall.
The final exam
is cumulative and covers Sections 1.1 through 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3,
3.5, 5.1, 5.2, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, 7.1 through 7.5 and 8.1. Review sessions for the
final exam will be done in lecture on December 1, December 4 and December 6,
2006.
