Exams and Quizzes

There will be four one-hour exams, and a final
exam. (As stated in the grading policy on the course’s main webpage, the
lowest score of the hour-exams will be dropped, and your grade will be computed
using the best 3 scores you got in the hour-exams.) Each hour-exam is worth 100
points, each quiz is worth 10 points and the final exam is worth 170 points.
The maximum score you can obtain in the class is 500 points. The dates for the
exams and quizzes, and the material covered by each of the exams are indicated
below. In order to prepare for the exams, you are very strongly encouraged to
do all the problems listed under the Assignments link.
EXAM 1: Thursday, September 13,
2007.
This exam covers
Sections 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6.
QUIZ 1: Thursday, September 27,
2007.
This quiz covers
the homework problems from Sections 2.1, 2.2, 3.1.
EXAM 2: Thursday, October 4, 2007.
This exam covers
Sections 2.1, 2.2, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3.
QUIZ 2: Thursday, October 25,
2007.
This quiz covers
the homework problems from Sections 5.1, 5.2, 5.4.
EXAM 3: Thursday, November 1,
2007.
This exam covers
Sections 3.5, 5.1, 5.2, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6.
QUIZ 3: Tuesday, November 13,
2007.
This quiz covers
the homework problems from Sections 7.1, 7.2.
EXAM 4:
Tuesday, November 20, 2007.
This exam covers Sections 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5.
FINAL EXAM: Thursday, December 13,
2007, 10:30-12:30 pm, 129 Dunn Hall.
The final exam is
cumulative and covers Sections 1.1 through 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.5,
5.1, 5.2, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, 7.1 through 7.5 and 8.1. Review sessions for the final
exam will be done in lecture on November 29 and December 4, 2007.
